The roughest rough draft of Murphy’s Law is now 0.007 done. Yes. Almost one percent.
This is obviously why I didn’t begin this foolish sorta thing before.

woo! gonna be published again: Best Lesbian Erotica 2005, Best of BLE 2Posted by: Elaine in Scribbling NewsEvery time I get a note from an editor confirming my acceptance into an anthology, I do this kinda jump-up-and-down thing. I’m doing it twice over right now — My piece *Fee Fie Foe Femme* will be published in Best Lesbian Erotica 2005 (edited by Tristan Taormino and Felice Newman) AND Best of Best Lesbian Erotica, Volume 2. (Edited by Tristan Taormino) Um. In the stores November-ish, I think. I’ll put a link to ‘em up here where they’re available: Did the reading of Follow That Bus! last night — one interesting note: for a non-queer event, and a non-queer book project, by my count, 4 of the 7 live readers were queer. Geez, eh? It must be a conspriracy. -E Here’s my story (noted below): Follow That Bus! All aboard for a night of weird, wild and wonderful tales of commuter Featuring readings by: Jeremiah Aherne, Jacyntha England, Matt Hern, Catherine McNeil, ISBN: 1-895636-55-8 $18 Tuesday, December 9 6?-8 p.m. The Cottage Bistro 4468 Main St., Vancouver free ? licensed ? music

Book Launch! You’re invited…Posted by: Elaine in Events and Consumerism, Scribbling NewsI have once again committed the grave sin of being anthologized — this time in a mainstream (non-kinky, non-queer) press, with a (surprisingly) non-kinky, non-queer non-fiction piece. But it *is* entertaining, and I’ll be reading it to the assembled. The Book being Launched: Exact Fare 2. The Name of My Piece: Follow That Bus! The Launch: There’ll be about 6 readers, and a band is coming on a little after 8:00. I dunno yet which band, or which other readers, but I’ll post the info at Do come by if you have the chance… -Elaine ps: The CBC picked up on my piece, and it’ll apparently go up on its website by Friday (Dec 5) Radio 3 website http://www.cbcradio3.com Hooray! Dedicated surfers of my site or readers of Xtra West may have seen this one before… Hooray for Scarlet Letters!

The Butler Did It (Fight Repression! Make Porn!)Posted by: Elaine in QueerLeatherSex, Scribbling NewsOnce upon a time I worked with Lezzie SMUT! magazine, first as a lowly submissions-getter, then as one of the editors on the board. Back in ‘94, one of the things that had just begun to have a great effect on our work as queer pornographers was the Butler decision — you know, where the powers that be decided that pornography of any sort is very bad for us poor women who need protection from such stuff as sex. [snort] Since the heavy powers wielded under the Butler decision had immediately been brought to bear against (1) Trish Thomas, a butch dyke author of some pretty dang hot smut and (2) Eli Langer, a queer artist expressing his emotions about his childhood abuse, we knew we were in for a difficult haul. Now, I can’t draw so goodly, but I was moved to create a wee single-panel cartoon on the matter, which was featured in Lezzie SMUT! issue five. Clicky-clicky for a Very Big Version of the image.
